After the Landlords and Tenants Association (LATAK) directed all tenants not to pay their rents until further notice, All tenants can now breathe a sigh of relief for the main time.
The association’s Secretary General Ben Liyai argued that businesses had stopped and the economy was depreciating due to the COVID-19 pandemic impact in the country. Liyai made the announcement on Wednesday, April 15, at a press conference adding LATAK had already talked to their members over the issue.
Going forward, the association does not expect any tenants to be harassed by the landlords because of rent payment.
‘‘LATAK directs all tenants not to pay rent until when President Uhuru Kenyatta orders businesses to resume normal operations,”
“All the landlords must forthwith stop evictions, harassment and disconnection of electricity and water to tenants,’’
The association also asked landlords having challenges in complying with the directives to send seek advice from it by texting the word Tenant or Landlord to 20777 so it can pick up the matter.
