A passerby in the Free State made a horrific observation when he noticed a man’s body with a missing head swimming in a dam.
He was sporting a pair of leggings and nothing else. The finding was made at the Rietfontein Trust at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said they hurried to the scene after the entity who saw the body confirmed the incident.
“On arrival, the police found a body floating in the dam of Rietfontein. The male body was found and upon examination, the police discovered that the victim had been decapitated. He was wearing black leggings, medium-sized dark-colored,” he added.
Makhele said the police were investigating the murder case.
“The victim remains anonymous and cannot be named at this stage since his head has yet to be identified.
“Any person with information is asked to contact Thaba Nchu detectives at 082 467 6612 or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” he added.
Meanwhile, this is the second body to be found dead in the Rietfontein Dam in the Free State.
Previously, a woman’s body was also found submerged in the dam during a baptism ritual near Bethlehem on Saturday.
It is confirmed that three persons were missing during the baptism process, which is believed to have taken place during the heavy rain that contributed to some of the people drowned in the dam.
The body of a woman was found on the same day but the bodies of two men were lost as the hunt was halted due to the rain and the powerful wind.
Later, the hunt continued and the corpse of a man was found in the same dam on Monday after 14:00 with missing body parties.
