T-Mobile Becomes Third US carrier to Push Android 9.0 Pie to The LG V30

Tmobile was originally released back in the fall of 2017 with a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor on deck, as well as a beautiful 6-inch P-OLED screen sporting razor-thin bezels, the LG V30 might just be the best piece of mobile hardware you can buy nowadays for less than $250 on eBay in brand-new condition.

Unfortunately, the software hasn’t been keeping up with the excellent hardware of the V30, but LG started to remedy that situation in Europe a few months ago, and one by one, major US carriers are following suit in delivering a relatively modern set of Android Pie goodies to the somewhat outdated high-end device. This is technically no longer the latest version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system, but for a two year-old handset that made its commercial debut back in the day running Android 7.1 Nougat, it’s definitely a big improvement.

Android 9.0 is also the OS build the LG V30 is expected to stay on for the remainder of its life, so you can probably forgive Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile for taking so long to optimize and make sure the update is as stable and as silky smooth as possible. After Big Red got the ball rolling among the nation’s top wireless service providers, AT&T needed just a couple of extra weeks to join the party , and now T-Mobile is reportedly sending over-the-air software tweaks, security patches, and performance enhancements of its own.

If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to download and install the official update on a T-Mo-specific V30 variant (model number H932) in a matter of hours, but if you’re not, you can either continue playing the waiting game (for no more than a few days, presumably) or pull the Android 9.0 Pie package manually using the LG Bridge desktop utility. Now the ball is firmly in Sprint’s court, but seeing as how the “Now Network” hasn’t even brought Pie-flavored treats to the V40 ThinQ yet, we wouldn’t hold our breath if we owned the carrier’s take on the much older V30.
